Title: General Law Clerk - Summer
Practice Areas: Public Interest, Internet, Intellectual Property, and Communications law
Job Description: New Media Rights is seeking law students interested in Technology/IPi law for Fall, Spring, and Summer positions. General law clerks will work on legal research projects answering support requests from our contact form, drafting agreements and contracts, and depending on the time of year, drafting policy comments to the FCCi or California Public Utilities Commission.
Our work varies broadly depending on the questions the public presents to us each week, and we prefer to "solve problems" rather than attack each issue with a purely legal solution. Therefore, we prefer candidates who (A) want to see a broad spectrum of media and IP law issues, (B) don't have pre-conceived notions as to what a lawyer does/doesn't do and (C) have an interest in working on independent self-generated projects.
We also prefer candidates with an interest in the arts or technology.
Qualifications: 1Ls who have completed their first year, as well as 2Ls and 3Ls are eligible. Copyrighti, trademark, licensing, and/or other related classes are also preferred but not required.
Salary: California Western CSE work study available. Volunteer, work study, or public interest grant; Pro Bono credit also available.

POSITION: Video Project Law Clerk
Title: Video Project Law Clerk - Summer

Job Description: New Media Rights is seeking individuals interested in Technology, IP, and Entertainment law for Spring, Summer and Fall positions. Video project law clerks will spend low percentage of their time doing the general law clerk tasks: answering support requests from our contact form and drafting agreements and contracts. Their primary focus will be working on a long-term educational project, re-appropriating Creative Commons legal guides into videos to make them useful to the public.
As a video project legal clerk, you will be primarily be doing legal research for this educational multimedia project. Thus, in addition to strong legal research skills, we also hope to find someone with a strong interest in one or several of the following areas: new media, film distribution, creative writing, and/or filmmaking.

POSITION - Public Relations Intern
New Media Rights is a non-profit looking for a graduate or undergraduate Public Relations Intern during either the Spring, Summer, or Fall semesters.

New Media Rights is a non-profit legal clinic that provides one-to-one assistance to artists, startup companies, non-profits and anyone else who creates and shares their work online. When not helping individuals, we focus on assisting organizations that provide better access to public information, more business and government accountability, or new cultural perspectives.

• Work with our existing contacts in the tech, entertainment, non-profit, and legal communities and develop new contacts in those industries
• Work on personal, independently generated projects based on your interests
• Work closely with an experienced former marketer of online commercials / viral videos
• Rest assured that you won't simply be "updating Facebooki and Twitteri" like many other internships

We would like someone who meets the following requirements.
• Enrolled in college or a graduate program
• Have an interest with working with a small, grassroots non-profit organization
• Very strong computer skills and interest in online marketing
• A keen interest in storytelling and writing for an audience
Ideal candidates will also have
• An interest in the Internet, media policy, art, technology and how the law applies to all of the above
• An interest in statistics and learning about evidence based PR and Communication strategies
• Ability and interest in organizing events
• The ability to work independently

As an intern, you'll have high-level challenging work and will be treated as integral part of the team. We would like someone who meets the following requirements.
• Enrolled in college or a graduate program
• Previous design and development experience: either independent work or at a previous job or internship will suffice
• Familiarity with Content Management Systems (how they work generally and the framework behind editing and customizing them)
• A keen sense of how to organize content in an easy-to-access, logical way
• Interest in usability and user-interfaces
Ideal candidates will also have
• An interest in the Internet, media policy, art, technology and how the law applies to all of the above
• Knowledge of Drupal 6
• Knowledge of CSSi
• Knowledge of databases and MySQL

WHO WE HOPE YOU'LL BE
We would like someone who meets the following requirements.
• Enrolled in college or a graduate program
• Have experience with, or an interest in learning all aspects of production - from formulating the idea, to producing, shooting, editing, to converting the end product into deliverable content.
• Knowledge of Final Cut Pro
• A keen interest in storytelling and writing for an audience
Ideal candidates will also have
• An interest in the Internet, media policy, art, technology and how the law applies to all of the above
• Knowledge of Adobe Premiere and After Effects or Motion
• Basic understanding of Youtube, Vimeo and other video sharing websites
• The ability to work independently
• Knowledge of GIMP or Photoshop
