Why we have a Citizen media & journalism forum?

Click here to BROWSE and POST new forum topics!

The Citizen media and journalism forum is intended to provide a place for the public to talk about the future of news media. As is happening around the country, traditional news media here in San Diego, such as the San Diego Union-Tribune and local TV stations are reducing staff and losing their audiences, diminishing their roles in the community.

The key questions posed here are:

How are the changes in the media and journalism world affecting our communities?

What do we want the future of our local and regional news and journalism to look like?

What are the new institutions that will provide quality regional & local media?

How can we organize to promote a new wave of quality journalism and news sources that serve our regions and cities?

UT Newspaper

The paper has already experienced hundreds of lay-offs. The newest round of lay-offs transpired this past week. My prediction is the paper will focus on featuring local people who want to see their names and faces in a paper and will focus on local issues that strictly impact San Diegans.

Because the name of the game is always "profits", the paper and others around the country will have to charge for on-line subscriptions instead of allowing people to access it in lieu of subscribing to the paper.

Your comment is timely. I'm now busy writing my next blog scheduled for release on monday. That's the first day of work for the new UT publisher.

San Diego Union Tribune Bought and paid for

Hello,

What will happen with the UT now? I don't think
it could get worse, maybe it will get better.
What do you think?
Anyway I will still look forward to the frys ad.

Thanks for your comment, The dust will settle in a few months after the UT sale. Most likely there will be consolidations, staff lay-offs and downsizing. That is what usually happens in cases like these. The newspaper said the new equity company plans on makeing the paper better. I would love that, and we will have to keep them to their words, or atleast remind them. pete
