Meet the New Media Rights Champions

New Media Rights Champions represent a variety of creators, entrepreneurs and innovators, who are NMR's ambassadors along with our Advisory Board members. NMR's Champions also currently include the following individuals:

Katie Rast

Champion

Joined NMR in:

June 2013

Katie is the Director of the San Diego instantiation of the MIT Fab Lab, a community-driven digital fabrication laboratory and educational program provider.  She has also worked with UCSD K-16 Programs as the Consulting Director of the STE[a]M Program, aimed at integrating science and arts into college preparatory learning.  Additionally, she works with technology-based projects and platforms that assist first responders in humanitarian assistance/disaster relief settings.

Upon being introduced to the world of Fab and trained by the Center for Bits and Atoms in 2007, Katie became a dedicated promoter of the Maker Movement and the building of an Innovation Ecology locally.  Before this, Katie split her time between working in communications and education - heading a consulting business and serving as the Marketing Director for the retail and wholesale divisions of a mortgage bank while developing digital media curricula for community-based organizations serving youth considered at-risk.

Jed Sundwall

Jed Sundwall is the co-founder of Measured Voice, the only social media management tool designed for government. Jed has over 8 years of experience helping political and governmental organizations use the Internet more effectively. He has worked with presidential campaigns, the federal government, and large non-governmental institutions to figure out the best ways to engage people, change minds, and enact change.

A proud and committed San Diegan, he is also the founder of Open San Diego, a group working to make data about San Diego freely available for anyone to use. Launched late in 2009, Open San Diego has quickly developed a vibrant community of volunteer software developers, journalists, and citizens interested in leveraging the power of data to improve the quality of policymaking, journalism, and overall decision making in San Diego.
